Studying in Germany is a dream for many Indian students, but before you apply, it’s important to understand how Distance Education qualifications are evaluated. Not all online or distance courses are accepted by APS India, which verifies academic qualifications for students aspiring to study in Germany.

Here’s a complete guide to help you avoid mistakes and make informed choices.

What Students Need to Know Before Applying to Germany

Accepted Distance Education Degrees

Distance Education Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees are valid only if:

  • The University is recognised by the Distance Education Bureau (DEB).

  • The specific course is DEB-approved for the entire duration of study.

This means both the institution and the course must be officially recognised.

Not Accepted (Professional & Practical Courses)

Certain professional and practice-based programmes are not recognised in Distance/Online mode by APS India, even if the university is DEB-approved. These include:

  • Medical, Nursing, Pharmacy, Dental

  • Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Optometry

  • Law, Architecture, Agriculture & Horticulture

  • Hotel Management, Catering, Culinary Sciences

These courses require practical training and hands-on experience, which online education cannot substitute.

Not Accepted (Research-Based Programmes)

Research programmes through distance learning are not recognised. This includes:

  • M.Phil

  • Ph.D

Such qualifications must be pursued through regular, recognised institutions with in-person research supervision.

Important for Students

  • Applications for the above-mentioned non-recognised programmes will not be processed by APS India, regardless of your year of enrolment or graduation.

  • Always check DEB recognition of both your university and course before applying.
